A Hebrew and Arabic primer for English speakers
The goal of this course is to teach speakers of English to read and write Hebrew and Arabic by acquiring one letter at a time. The course is designed for the sequential introduction of cognates — words that are similar in both languages
In using this primer, students who know Hebrew can easily learn the basics of Arabic, and those who know Arabic can likewise learn Hebrew. The object is to master parallel sentences in both languages, setting the stage for further written and/or oral study.
Dreams of Peace was developed by Barry Mann, MD, and in 2014 the course's prototype textbook served as the introductory Arabic textbook for rabbinical students at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College near Philadelphia.
